All in the Name of Charity

Nell, 1pm on Saturday 9th April 2011

The band were proud to be involved in a couple of charitable gigs in March - the first was FUNK AND CHIPS in aid of Deafblind UK. Rod Cullen did a sterling job putting the event together for this amazing organisation and even managed to plug the band, and get us some airplay, on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire - thanks Rod! The second gig was for the Special Care Baby Unit at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The band were proud to be a part of this event that raised over £7,000 for the unit.

Both events held raffles and auctions - in one of these our sax player, Ian, managed to bag first prize. Ian also also won a highly sought after prize... a fire blanket, making this a very eventful weekend for him indeed!! This month, we are continuing our charitable streak with a private event for Clatterbridge Cancer Research - we are looking forward to doing our part for this worthy cause.

Summer gets under way

Charlie & Art, 5pm on Thursday 10th June 2010

Our summer kicks off with a warm-up gig at The Vaults on Friday 25th June. Entry is free and our first set starts at 10:30pm. We are expecting another good turn out, so if you are intending to come along be sure to get there early to avoid the queues. We're booked up with The Vaults until the end of the year, so don't worry if you can't make it this time!

The summer is always our busiest time of year and 2010 is proving to be no exception. If you check out our band calendar you will see that we have a full schedule ahead! We will be performing at a number of weddings, corporate functions and parties around Cambridgeshire. We're looking forward to all of our engagements, and we hope that the weather will be kind to us... and that England will do us proud in the World Cup, though we're not holding our breath on that last point...

Don't forget that you can become a fan of us on Facebook, and also follow us on Twitter.

Big gigs and a busy summer ahead!

Charlie & Art, 9pm on Sunday 11th April 2010

We've got some great gigs lined up this year! Ozone Breakdown, a DJ collective who travel the country putting on immense underground parties, have booked us for their Ball of Funk 2010. The event, held in South Cambridgeshire, will definitely be a highlight in another busy year for the band. We're all looking forward to returning to what turned out to be a great gig in 2009.

In other news, The Vaults in Cambridge has become a regular haunt of ours and always attracts a fun crowd. Watch this space for more announcements on that front - entry is free and it's always a great atmosphere below the cobbled Cambridge streets.

Our band namesake Charlie has set us up with a Twitter account, where he'll be tweeting our gigs as they appear. For dedicated followers of the Factory, and for those wanting to dip a toe into the waters of Funk, why not follow us on Twitter to be informed of our gig dates and venues, as well as any tidbits of news Charlie cares to cast forth into the ether? You know you want to!

Finally, as always, keep up with our gigs on the Calendar - we are adding to them almost daily at the moment, and things look set for another gig-packed Summer. Stay tuned!

New demo recordings... and a video

Art, 3pm on Sunday 7th February 2010

Just a quick note to celebrate the fact that thanks to the excellent efforts of Nell H and Dan we now have 5 new demo tracks mastered and available to listen to on our Media page - great work guys!

Not content with providing merely aural pleasure, the hard-working couple have also edited together a video of us taken from the 'I Feel Good' session. Again, this is available to view on the Media page. Enjoy!

We have a website; yay!

Ian, 2pm on Monday 1st February 2010

Finally... 3,000% behind the projected date (but surprisingly on budget) we have reached release time and all of the formalities have now been performed. Charlie & the Funk Factory have a home on the web which isn't owned by Newscorp!

While everyone in the band has a passion to get up and perform music, there are still plenty of other things we need to do these days. Moving into the 2nd decade of the 21st century, it seems one of those things is to swiftly evolve into part-time webmasters. This rapid bit of Darwinian motion is all a good thing, though, allowing you to find out all sorts of things relating to our Cambridge based band with your browsing tool of preference. You can find gig listings, media snippets, member bios, right down to the nitty-gritty stuff like the logistics of how we cart our kit around.

Even with all of this pro-web rhetoric and a reminder of just how much amazing media you can find out there, we are a live band, and you can't quite convey that on a web page. So, please come and see us play in our natural environment. Check out our handy gig calendar to find out when and where we are next playing an open gig.

Happy browsing, and I hope you like what you find!
